For me writing is like being behind a fence. From behind that fence hazy seductive worlds beckon. Sometimes language itself is the barrier to what lies beyond. Against all good sense and reason, employing single-minded determination, the crafter of words must hunt down the words and phrases that, like oiled keys in stiff and rusty locks, will grant access to fantastic worlds almost out of reach. Occasionally in my careful construct I detect a faint rhythmic echo of the haphazard order of creation, and that must be satisfaction enough. Writing is a hazardous profession. Each meticulously crafted work launched into the world is the equivalent of a very small rowing boat set adrift upon a very large treacherous ocean.
